The view from your campsite at this KOA is buena indeed- a panorama of five 14,000-foot-plus peaks frames this mountain valley. Tucked among rocks and shaded by pinon pines, the campground is a few miles southeast of the small resort town of Buena Vista and a mile from the Arkansas River. You can hike or bike on public land adjacent on three sides of the KOA and then sign up at the campground office for fly-fishing and horseback riding. Your hosts can arrange for a wide variety of other pursuits-such as rafting and jeeping and soaking in hot springs-or direct you to hiking trails, ghost towns and rockhounding sites. At KOA, play sand volleyball, basketball and horseshoes, then head for the hot tub. Breakfast is served summer mornings in the cook shack. Enjoy this quiet and tranquil setting. Space is available January 1 through March 31 by reservation only.

The last weekend in March, this KOA hosts the annual Royal Gorge Anglers fly-fishing school. From mid-April through mid-May, an amazing caddis hatch produces incredible dry-fly action. Arkansas River Tours can put you on tame stretches of water near the campground or take you for a wild ride through Royal Gorge, 23 miles east. After a day of action, relax at KOA's pavilion and patio overlooking the river. Swimming, hayrides, a game room with a pool table, mini golf, nightly movies and more keep kids smiling. Enjoy the new deluxe sites-overlooking and near the river-with concrete patios, fire rings and patio furniture. You're close to the old mining town of Cripple Creek, as well as the Royal Gorge Route excursion train.

At 10,000 feet above sea level, the Cripple Creek KOA is the highest KOA in the world. It is always cool (normal mid-June to mid-August highs 70-80, normal lows 40-50 degrees Fahrenheit) and never humid. There are glorious sunsets with quiet, restful nights and fabulous star gazing . We have a Colorado high country setting, a peaceful mountain location bordering BLM forest land.

The Cripple Creek/Victor area is full of things to do - Mollie Kathleen Gold Mine, Cripple Creek melodrama, steam train ride between Cripple Creek and Victor, Florissant Fossil Beds National Monument, CC/Victor Gold Mining Company which is a huge commercial gold reclamation operation, Cripple Creek Museum, nearby horseback riding , hiking up Trachyte Knob adjacent to the campground , fishing at Skaguay or Eleven Mile reservoirs, as well as numerous casinos in Cripple Creek for your gambling pleasure. It is always fun to look for the donkeys that have roamed around Cripple Creek for years.

The campground is located centrally to the Colorado Springs/Pike's Peak area attractions as well as the Royal Gorge Country attractions, each area being 45 minutes to one hour away. Guests use us as a base-camp for going to these other areas. We can keep you busy for days! Our staff is able to help with reservations for our guests at numerous Colorado Springs and Royal Gorge attractions, e.g. Colorado Springs/Manitou Springs Cog Railway, Flying W Ranch in Colorado Springs, Royal Gorge Route Train, Echo Canyon or other rafting companies in the Royal Gorge area.

At the campground our RV sites are spacious pull-thrus with open spectacular views of the high mountain countryside. Tent campers may choose a wilderness site in the aspen trees or a deluxe tent site that has a ramada cover, electricity and water. We have ten camping cabins and two camping lodges. We offer pancake breakfast service on Saturday and Sunday from Memorial Day to Labor Day for an additional charge. There is a camping kitchen for use by our guests. Evening meal service is available for groups upon request. We have a game room, banana bikes (for kids). All of our sites have fire pits for great campfires on cool evenings. Children 6 years and younger are free and pets are welcome.

We are open all year in Strasburg, CO and located near Watkins, Bennett and Byers . There are many events that take place along the I-70 corridor during the year. Several outfitters guide kayak and whitewater raft outings on the Animas River, which flows through downtown Durango. Dozens of galleries, shops and restaurants line its charming streets. In the area, you'll also find hiking, biking, fishing, outfitted jeep tours and horseback riding. The Durango KOA serves as a great base camp for Mesa Verde National Park.

This Western Colorado KOA campground is centrally located between the high desert and hiking trails of the Colorado National Monument and the tree-shaded lakes of the Grand Mesa, featuring fishing, ATV and hiking trails, and moose, elk and deer hunting. Nearby, mountain bike trails in all directions offer terrain very similar to Moab without the crowds. The Colorado River offers rafting from "mild", 2-hour trips to "WILD" full-day trips; you can even catch a horseback ride! Bring your rod and reel, because great trout fishing is just a short drive away from the campground.

Camping at our KOA campground has something for everyone- and every kind of rig! All pull through sites are large, 30 or 50 amp sites with fire pits & tables for your camping enjoyment. No RV? No problem! Our traditional cabins are cozy one-room cabins that have a full bed and a set of bunk beds, the larger two-room cabin has a full bed in one room and two sets of bunk beds in the other. All cabins have mini fridges, fire pits/Barbeque combo's and tables. Want and upgrade from the traditional cabin we have new studio lodges with kitchenette's and bathrooms We even have a limited number of tent sites- all including electric and water, and just steps away from bathrooms and showers.

Kids will love the game room with pool, air hockey, and ping pong. For some outside fun, how about a round of mini golf or spend some time in the playground area. From Memorial day to Labor day cool off in the pool or take in a movie with the kids starts about dusk. There's even a "bark park" for pets.

Escape the heat in cool Gunnison, where the average July high temperature is 80 degrees. From this campground southwest of town, you're just 10 minutes from Blue Mesa Reservoir and the 40-pound-plus trout that make this big, cold lake one of Colorado's top fishing holes. The rainbows in the KOA fishing pond (mid-June to mid-September) are a tad bit smaller. Cruise on a paddleboat (mid-June to mid-September). This KOA rents bikes and features an off-leash dog park. Hike, bike or go rafting in the area too. To the west, the sheer rock walls of the Black Canyon of the Gunnison plummet some 2,500 feet to the Gunnison River. Crested Butte, a 19th-century mining town surrounded by peaks, lies a half-hour's drive north. Keebler Pass provides some of the best autumn aspen color in the Rocky Mountains.
